FPV250 Quadcopter Build

I'm excited to say that I've built a new quadcopter! This one's a little bit smaller, a 250mm model.
Once the weather here dries out, I'll be able to take it for a proper test flight outside.
Overall, I'm quite pleased with the end result. It's leaps and bounds better than my previous quadcopter, an x525 build, which you'll see later.
Why is it so much better? The flight controller. The new FPV250 uses a HobbyKing KK2.1.5 board, whereas my x525 used a clone KK(1) board. As this picture shows, it has a nice little screen onboard, which you can use to tweak the sensitivity, motor layout, etc.
Old versus new. My x525 (the larger one) became a bit of a beater, taking damage every single flight. The FPV 250 is actually shorter than one of the 1045 (10" long by 45° pitch) props on the big one.
Once I'm more sure of my piloting skills, I hope to attach my gopro to the little guy, and get some neat FPV video.
I picked up a toolbox from Harbor Freight, which is a perfect fit. The foam comes out in little squares, allowing me to pull out just enough for a snug fit.
The removed foam creates almost an 8-bit art style  quadcopter. I also pulled out some foam to hold extra props and batteries.
In the same order, I received some FPV gear. Pictured above is an 5.8 GHz transmitter, matching receiver, cheap-o Quanum FPV goggles, and cloverleaf antenna.
Besides looking super neat, these antenna are much more reliable than the stock whip antenna that this sort of thing ships with.
After I start working more with this equipment, I'll have to clean up this rat's nest.
Currently, my mission is to tune the crap out of this little quad until I'm supremely confident in my piloting skills. Then I'll throw on the FPV gear and perhaps an action camera, and start taking high-speed videos. Be sure to let me know what you think! Thanks for reading!

  1. The little speedster looks awesome! :) I have built a 500 size quad, TBS Disco clone frame and it works great, but with a Naza M Lite FC. Too bad for your big bird, hearing that it became a beater bird, guess that wasn't a part of his plan :) Make sure you post some videos when the 250 goes in the air! Also, I suggest checking out this article I found recently, talking about some of the best, large, quads on the market. I think you will find it interesting.
